If Voldemort wanted to live forever, why did he not just get a portrait of himself?

I've always wondered about these portraits, for example in the Headteacher's Office, there are hundreds of portraits that can talk etc. including Dumbledore's. Does this also mean that Dumbledore doesn't actually die, considering anybody can pop up to have a chat?
